How often do you need to be vaccinated for hepatitis B?

Hepatitis B vaccine can prevent hepatitis B. The disease (Hepatitis B) is mainly a kind of liver disease which can be responsible in order to cause mild illness or it can lead to a serious, lifelong illness.

There are two types of Hepatitis B infection:

Acute hepatitis B infection
Chronic hepatitis B infection

In 1982, the first hepatitis B vaccine was approved for the treatment of hepatitis B virus in the United States. In the year of 1986, a hepatitis B vaccine was produced as well as licensed by the recombinant DNA technology. And in 1989, the second recombinant-type hepatitis B vaccine was licensed. These two recombinant vaccines named as Engerix-B and Recombivax-HB are the only HBV preparations which are being used.

Who should get this vaccine: Hepatitis B vaccine (HB vaccine) is basically a three-dose series, recommended for all children 0-18 years of age. The vaccine is recommended for infants at the time of birth in the hospital and all such older children who never received all the necessary doses of hepatitis B vaccine at the birth, must start their vaccine series as soon as possible. Most states required hepatitis B vaccine for school entry. Adolescents who have just started their series should have to receive two or three doses and these doses mainly depend on their age and the kind of vaccine used. Such adults who are at increased risk of acquiring HBV infection should also be vaccinated. Additionally, the vaccine could be given to any such person who is looking forward to protection from hepatitis B.

Side Effects: Of those children experiencing a side effect, most will have only a very mild reaction, such as soreness at the injection site (fewer than one-out-of-three children) or low-grade fever. There are slightly more chances that adults may experience such mild symptoms. Serious allergic reactions following hepatitis B vaccination are rare.

How long does hepatitis B vaccine last in the body: Researches specified that immunologic memory remains intact for at least 20 years among healthy vaccinated individuals who initiated hepatitis B vaccination >6 months of age. The vaccine provides long-term protection against the chronic hepatitis B virus infection.

Schedule for hepatitis B vaccine for adults: Hepatitis B vaccine is usually given as 2, 3, or 4 shots.

In infants, the first dose of the hepatitis B vaccine should be given at the time of birth and will usually complete the series at 6 months of age. Sometimes it could be longer than 6 months in order to complete the series.

Children, as well as adolescents, who are below 19 years of age and have not yet received the vaccine, must be vaccinated.

What is the vaccine for hepatitis B: The infection has been preventable by vaccination since 1982. Vaccination is recommended by the WHO (World Health Organization) from the first day of life if possible. For the full effect of vaccines two or three more doses are required. This vaccine works about 95% of the time. Patients with the initial infections, care must be considered on their symptoms. In patients with chronic disease, antiviral medication such as tenofovir or interferon may be useful. Liver transplantation is sometimes used for cirrhosis.
As of now, there are some medications licensed for the treatment of hepatitis B infection. These include antiviral medications:

Lamivudine
Adefovir
Tenofovir Disoproxil
Tenofovir Alafenamide
Telbivudine
Entecavir
And also there are some immune system modulators, which are as:
Interferon alpha-2a
PEGylated interferon alpha-2a.

In the year 2015 the WHO (World Health Organization) recommended tenofovir or entecavir as first-line agents. People who carry cirrhosis are in major need of the treatment. Elaboration of Tenofovir Alafenamide (Hepbest) is as follows:

Hepbest 25 mg: This medication is a hepatitis B virus (HBV) nucleoside analog reverse transcriptase inhibitor.
Uses of Hepbest 25 mg: Tenofovir Alafenamide is indicated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus infection in adults with compensated liver disease.
hepbest 25 mg dose should be taken by mouth daily with the food.

Hepatitis B Treatment Duration: Treatment of Hepatitis B could last from six months to a year.
Duration simply depends on medications and also on genotype. When medication is taken by mouth the treatment duration varies and may be longer than a year.
